With the digital economy booming, this client was “in a hurry” to rapidly expand and grow their e-commerce engine to capitalize on many opportunities that they were seeing in the business.
BUSINESS CHALLENGES
As part of the program running the ongoing digitization of their business, the client now wanted to expand their e-commerce division quickly. However, leadership had directed project managers to ensure that their transformation interventions were sustainable and IT implementations scalable.
The leadership’s strategy included fast speeds to market and hence, all IT projects needed Agile adoption and scalability as success criteria. Also, for correction/fine-tuning of business models as per changing needs, they expected technology that was flexible. To compete aggressively in their industry, it had to be supportive of quick tactical moves by their online business.
They now planned to move to a SaaS-based enterprise solution. This critical IT transformation required constant quality checks to ensure:
- Business continuity
- Seamless user experience
- High performing system
- Improved time-to-market supporting ongoing business changes.
These requirements needed a structured quality control process that drove efficiency, quality, and accuracy for frequent system rollouts. The business needed to be able to leverage their e-commerce IT platform (and rapid new deployments) with assurance.
RECODE’S SOLUTION
We proposed a Quality Assurance (QA) Center of Excellence (COE) for this client, a structured model that would be set up at the implementation, but also learn, co-create, sustain and scale on an ongoing basis thereafter.
The Recode team has created a dedicated client COE that can strategize, plan, execute, and deliver high-quality e-commerce deliverables seamlessly with the internal IT organization.
The COE’s structure includes a PMO (program management office), a team that projects the incoming demand, enables Agile delivery throughputs, and plans available capacity. The execution team consists of:
- Manual Functional SMEs (subject matter experts) ensure all key functionalities, manage the plethora of positive and negative test scenarios, and capture any ad-hoc scenarios via the test case library that can be a living repository for future releases.
- Test Automation Engineers identify repeatable regression test suites across various functionalities for test automation. This reduces the time-to-market for Agile delivery of new features on an ongoing basis.
- Performance and Security Test Engineers perform cross-platform validation and benchmark performance/security scalability, endurance, and breaking points.
The COE has created a repository of testing artifacts, best-in-class standards, and metrics that matter to the client. It has developed and maintains the roadmap for ongoing changes.

- Fully-automated regression suite, executing 2,000+ test cases a day
